He's here!
Baby Mateo Timothy Makelarski arrived Friday, July 5th at 7:50PM. He weighed in at exactly 7 pounds and was 19.5 inches long.
We are all doing great! We'll share more about Mateo's arrival, but for now wanted to share some of our favorite shots of him.

38 Weeks!
Yesterday, our lovely friends Gjorge and Jen came to our house and did a maternity photo shoot for us. Mile served as art director and, in his words, an "accessory" in some the pictures. I just did whatever everyone told me to.
We got a sneak peek at a photo this morning and thought we'd share below. I'm so excited to see the rest! Gjorge and Mile had some really great, fun ideas! Chicago friends, if are looking for a photographer, I highly recommend Gjorge and can get you his contact information.
On a separate note, we EXTENDING the deadline for the game to guess the baby's arrival date/time and weight/length to JULY 4th. I think a few people have had problems figuring out how to leave their guess. All you need to do is go to this post and scroll to the bottom. Enter your comment in the open text box that says "Enter your comment." For some reason, the comment section doesn't seem to show up on a lot of phones and tablets, you might need to use a laptop.

Full-term!
As of Sunday, at 37 weeks, Biscuit is considered full-term. So....any day now, right?
I'll share some belly pics soon (promise), but I'm already in my ill-fitting pjs, so not tonight. However, I will share a picture of one of the joys of full-term pregnancy in hot, humid June weather.....

When and how much???
The big day is coming quickly. Jen and Mile have been organizing their nest preparing for Biscuit's arrival. It's time for you to register your guess!
When will Biscuit make his debute and how big will he be? The doctors are predicting July 14th. Please leave your prediction for the date, time, weight and length in the comments. We'll use the time as a tie breaker if more than one person picks the winning day. The length will be the tie breaker for the weight results.
Please register your guess by the end of June just in case Biscuit decides to make an early appearance.

Baby Shower #2
We had a second baby shower in Chicago for all of our friends here (and nearby!). We wanted to post a big thank you to all those who came and few pictures from the festivities!

And we are back...
...were you worried we had the baby after such a long delay? Nope, just busy. Mom and Dad were in town this weekend and we had another party (more on that for future posts).
Today, we have ANOTHER video of a gift opening!
Huge thanks to Steph and Pete for the awesome gift (and hilarious note to boot). We haven't put it together yet, but it's on the to-do-very-soon list and I'll be sure to share pictures of the nursery.

Thank you, Aunt Jamie! Mom and Dad are bring the many gifts we received at our shower to Chicago this weekend so I'll have lots of organizing to do.

34 weeks!
Hi, Everyone,
Let me start this post by saying we don't have a full length mirror. Sure, if I stand back far enough, I can get a full length view in the bathroom sink mirror, but I don't usually bother.
So, I suppose that's why I felt completely justified in calling several strangers rude (not to their face, mind you...) after they said things like, "Wow! You must be due any day now!" or "You are about to pop, huh?" and "Are you sure there's only one in there?" despite the fact that I look like this....
After taking this picture yesterday, I now understand and willingly retract all my snarky comments.
Hope you all are enjoying the same kind of sunny spring weather we've got here!

PS. Don't be worried. Per the doctor, my size/weight are perfectly normal.
PPS. What about pregnancy do you suppose makes people believe they can say any inappropriate comment that comes to mind?

Funnies vs 2.0
Another funny pregnancy moment....
The first time we went to a baby store, Mile was testing out all of the strollers, especially the one-hand fold options. I was just kind of hanging out trying not to touch anything. A very knowledgable staff member was patiently helping us and explaining all the ins and outs of strollers. At the time, we weren't sure where we would be living and thought there was a chance that we'd live somewhere without an elevator, requiring us to carry a stroller up stairs regularly. So, he was also testing the weight and how to carry the stroller. Holding a folded stroller, Mile asked "Oh, are these straps to carry it? Can I wear it like a back pack to carry it?" Looking confused the staff guy said, "Um, no. Those are to strap the baby in. You should always strap the baby in." Oops. Through my laughter, I managed to say, "It's our first. Don't worry, we'll strap him in."

Blue or Pink?
With the help of Aunt Jamie, I recently realized that we never formally announced Biscuit's gender. With all the gifts you've seen, I'm guessing many have figured it out, but thought I would share how we found out anyway.
As part of a research study, we had an 18 week ultrasound (on Valentine's Day...awww)--two weeks earlier than most people have their clinical ultrasound. This was so great for those us (mom and I in particular), who couldn't bear waiting any longer to know if we were having a boy or girl. I can honestly say that I didn't care if Biscuit was a boy or girl, I just wanted to know. I always thought I would care one way or the other, but really did ascribe to the "just hope he or she is healthy."
We originally wanted to have a "gender reveal party," but due to how much we had going on at the time and how long it would be before we could get a party together, we realized it would require us to wait way too long to learn the gender.
So, aided by technology, we had a mini-revel "party." Mile and I went to the ultrasound in the morning and had the technician circle the correct gender on a card we brought which she then sealed in an envelope. Mile dropped me off at work and I remember him saying something like, "Why in the world did we decide to do this????" I think he was ready to know too!
I carried that card around all day and, by some miracle, managed not to tear it open. When we got home, after a few struggles, we managed to set-up Skype on 2 computers and face-time on two phones. With mom, dad, Mile's mom, Michelle (my sister), and Dragana and Ian (Mile's sister and brother-in-law) at the virtual party, Mile did the honors and opened the card to reveal....
We did have a little mishap....rather than saying "It's a boy!" Mile tried to show everyone the card, but the lighter color of the "boy" didn't show up very well on the computer and I think all people could see was "girl." Oops! Luckily, we got it straightened out pretty quick!
Anyway, that's how we found out!
